  • Do business with companies that you know and trust. Use the Better Business Bureau to identify fraudulent or "problem" companies before you buy.


  • Be wary of Internet scams. Auctions, "work at home" offers, advance fee loans, chain letters, travel offers, credit repair offers, and online investment opportunities should always be thoroughly researched before you provide any personal or financial information.


  • Report fraudulent activities promptly. Report online scams or fraud to the Federal Trade Commission, Attorney General, auction site operators, or other appropriate personnel as soon as possible.
